Reading: A Living Economy: Create a Movement

A Living Economy: Create a Movement
This is the most inspiring article among others I've read recently.

Summary

  • When it comes to establishing a sustainible company, one could be visionary to consider the bisiness as a magnificent movement, everyone related(stakeholders, managers, employers, employees, consumers...etc) as participant. In such a concept, what does matter shifts from the company's outputs(products or services) to the genuine meaning of this movement.
  • Quote: Growth as a target disregards the quality of the system in which we live, bringing forth a mismatch between economic growth, environmental sustainability and human well-being
  • A bissiness leader ought to find some values common to individuals across the world and fit the needs of humanity, such like community feeling, affiliation and self-acceptance.
  • Metaphor: When riding on a country road toward a destination, try exploring some beatiful scenes aside the road, not just worry about how much gas or distance remained. "Enjoy the journey, not the achivement" is the meaning of a company movement.
  • Yes, Get bent~! GDP

Note:

Where I saw the inspiration here is that finally a upstream solution emerged, which can be cast into the source and solve many problems downstream our problematic system.
And this is a 2-phase solution:
  1. Translate economic activities into so-called movements, beyond trading-products-and-services-with-money.
  2. Endue the movement a honorable meaning, which would be praised worldwide in humanity.
By the way, the word "movement" reminds me of Apple, although another word "religion" is more appropriate to them.
They certainly have great success by reached phase 1, but I don't think they'll ever go into phase 2.
