What you can do
- Recycle
- Put separate containers next to your trash can, each for bottles, cans, paper, whatever
- Turn off the lights
- Turn of lights in the daytime or when you are leaving for a long while
- Make the switch (of your light bulbs)
- Replace incandescent bulbs with CFL or LED ones
- Turn on the tap
- Stop drinking bottled water, they are not better and cost you much
- Find a way to purify tap water
- Turn down the heat
- Turn down your thermostat or use a programmable thermostat
- Support food recovery programs
- Encourage your local restaurants and grocery stores to partner with food rescue organization
- Donate any non-perishable canned and dried foods
- Buy local
- Go to farmers markets or local farms for your products, eggs, dairy and meat
- Get out and ride
- Use your city's bike share programto run short errands and commute to work
- Ride on the bike lane or trail if there are ones
- Share a car
- Join a car share program
- Plant a garden
- Plant some lettuce in the window box
- Compost
- Learn how to compost at HowToCompost.org and then practice
- Reduce your meat consumption
- Progressively cut down on the amount of meat you consume week by week, or month by month
